Understanding Authenticated Emails and Why They Matter
Updated over 3 months ago

When managing email campaigns, one crucial factor that impacts deliverability and professionalism is email authentication. At Beacons and many other companies within this industry, recognize the importance of using authenticated emails to enhance your communication efforts and support relay emails.

What Are Authenticated Emails?

Authenticated emails are messages sent from an email address that has been verified and set up with authentication protocols. This means the email address you use is correctly configured with standards like SPF (Sender Policy Framework), DKIM (DomainKeys Identified Mail), and DMARC (Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting & Conformance). These protocols help verify that the email is genuinely from you and protect against phishing and spoofing.

Why Sending from an Authenticated Email is Important

  1. Enhanced Deliverability: Authenticated emails are less likely to be marked as spam. Email providers use authentication protocols to verify that the sender is legitimate, improving your chances of landing in your recipient’s inbox.

  2. Improved Trust and Credibility: Emails from authenticated addresses build trust with recipients. They see a verified sender and are more likely to open and engage with your messages, rather than marking them as spam or ignoring them.

  3. Protects Your Brand: Authentication helps prevent unauthorized parties from sending emails that appear to be from your domain. This protects your brand’s reputation and prevents potential misuse.

  4. Better Analytics: Authenticated emails ensure that you receive accurate analytics on your email campaigns, including open rates and click-through rates, which are crucial for refining your strategy.

Current Email Sending at Beacons

At Beacons, our platform currently supports relay email sending rather than authenticated email sending. Here’s what this means for you:

  • Relay Emails: When you use Beacons to send emails, we use a relay system. This means that while your emails are sent through our servers, replies are directed back to your personal or business email address.

  • Authentication We Offer: Because we use relay emails, we do not currently offer the feature to authenticate your own email address directly within our platform. However, if you have a custom domain connected to your Beacons Account, you can authenticate your domain to use for your Email sends!

Authenticated emails are a vital aspect of effective email communication, offering benefits like enhanced deliverability and brand protection. Although Beacons currently supports relay email sending without direct authentication, we’re dedicated to providing the best service and will keep you informed about future enhancements. In the meantime, following best practices can help you achieve the best results with your email campaigns.
